Healthcare is high pressure by design, but unmanaged emotional overload quietly disrupts performance.
Burnout doesn’t just exhaust caregivers... it increases the risk of
communication breakdowns, safety concerns, patient dissatisfaction, and costly turnover.
While systemic factors play a role, strengthening how individuals regulate under pressure is still within reach.
Sustainable performance begins there.

THE STORY
The origin of D.R.I.V.E. Better Care comes from a moment in a NICU when I was emotionally unraveling after losing my wife. I was detached, overwhelmed, and struggling to connect with my newborn son.
One nurse changed everything for me. Not because she was dramatic, but because she was grounded. She was emotionally present, steady, and clear. She had taken care of herself well enough to show up fully for me.
Because she showed up that way consistently, I trusted her. And when she finally challenged me, telling me what I needed to hear, I accepted it. That moment didn’t fix everything, but it stopped the downward spiral and changed my trajectory.
Because that nurse was able to stay present for me during emotionally overwhelming times, I was able to connect with my son. I was able to learn how to be a dad, and that trajectory eventually led me to getting remarried and having more children.
D.R.I.V.E. Better Care is my way of helping other medical professionals acquire the tools they need to reduce burnout, reconnect with their WHY, and show up for themselves so they can, like that nurse, show up for their own patients.
My life is amazing because of the pivot I was able to make when that nurse stepped into my space, got down on my level, and helped me where I was.
That is the power of sustainable performance under pressure.
D.R.I.V.E. Better Care teaches caregivers how to do the same:
Discover the story your subconscious mind is telling you.
-
Resolve the lies that false story is trying to get you to believe.
-
Invest in yourself by doing something quick to feel physically better.
-
Visualize yourself having a successful and energizing next encounter.
-
Elevate yourself and others by doing a simple service for somebody else.
This framework works in real time between patient interactions, after difficult cases, during high-emotion conversations.
BUT...
It also scales deeper for leadership development and long-term culture work.
Caregivers must take care of themselves so they can take care of others. When they regulate internally, they show up externally and changes outcomes.

Powering through emotional overload and hoping it doesn’t spill over
Short tempers, quiet disengagement, and “just get through the shift” thinking
Carrying one patient’s stress into the next interaction
Avoiding difficult conversations because you’re already drained
Consistently considering leaving the profession altogether
Recognizing and hedging emotional overload before it escalates
Resetting effectively between high-stress moments in real time
Showing up steady and confident in difficult conversations
Reconnecting to purpose and maintaining positive energy when things get difficult
Performing consistently, safely and intentionally even when situations are uncertain

I hoped that Weston would deliver a lot about the patient side and the difference that the mental health of nurses made to the patients — and that was exactly what he delivered.

It was really personal… it hit home base. It helped everyone remember why they’re here and the kind of difference they want to make.

I feel like I believe in myself a lot more to make a difference in someone else’s life because of his presentation.

I feel like I’m going to care a lot more about the family members… looking at the broader picture and being more empathetic for everyone involved in that patient’s care.

The music was certainly different, but in the best way. It drove the message home better than I had even hoped. Unforgettable!
